Dreams Of Becoming A Morehouse Man

I really want to take this campaign to Twitter, but I don't want my followers to become bored of my constant post. This is one of those things that just can't be said in 140 characters.

I have thought long and hard about how I wanted to present my plea and there is no way to do it, other than to just ask for your help. By now you may know that I have Sickle Cell Anemia and I am an advocate for adults with the disease. This may in part explain my determination to see Markus become the Morehouse Man that he has dreamed of becoming as far back as anyone can remember. His mother Thelma is a single parent of two and she has brought up two amazing young adults. Her oldest daughter Markeisha is a graduate of SMU and her youngest son Markus is currently in his final year at Morehouse College.

When I think of beating the odds, I think of this family. Thelma has had some difficult days trying to keep her kids on the right path, while she fought a disease that oftentimes landed her in the hospital for long periods of time. Markus, was affected in ways that I don’t think we will ever know. In spite of it all, he managed to gain entrance into the legendary Morehouse College. The work that it took to maintain his grades was no easy feat, considering his mother was hospitalized several times and she was miles away in Dallas, TX. Markus’ dedication to fulfill his dream is remarkable and I really can’t seem to express the song that is lodged in my heart toward him.

When I found out that Markus was having trouble securing finances in order to finish his last year of college it catapulted me into action. I don’t have much money, but I have a voice. I decided to use my voice by creating a campaign whereby people are given an opportunity to help this young man’s dream become a reality. It doesn’t take much if everyone gave a little and I’m praying that his story touches your heart.

When Markus was a young boy he visited Morehouse and ignited his faith, that maybe he could attend when he was old enough. Several years later, Markus returned to that very campus as a freshman. He has come too far to not cross the finish line. I told Markus that I wanted to pursue this campaign and I in no way wanted to put him in an awkward position, so please show him that he is not alone and that his hard work was not in vain.
